Engineering manager, still close to the code.

I've been building software for more than 15 years, and for a good part of that I've been managing the teams doing it. Most recently I was an Engineering Manager at Leonardo.Ai, now part of Canva, where I led the team building Blueprints: a workflow engine for AI-powered image and video generation, running on NestJS, AWS Step Functions and ECS.

Before that I ran engineering teams at Swyftx, Mr Yum and Youfoodz. I work mostly in TypeScript and Go, with Postgres, Redis and Kafka underneath, and AWS and Terraform holding it all up. I'm based in Brisbane.

Blueprints

A workflow engine for AI-powered image and video generation. Each Blueprint chains models, prompts, references and settings into a single click.

Problem solved
Getting a good result by hand means choosing a model, tuning settings and iterating. A Blueprint runs that whole pipeline end to end from one input, and picks up new models as they ship, so the workflow stays one click.
My role
  • Led the backend implementation.
  • Worked with product stakeholders to define requirements and set expectations.
  • Wrote and reviewed code alongside the team.
